Animal shelters across the country are once again teaming up with NBC and Telemundo stations to find loving homes for pets in need with the Clear The Shelters pet adoption campaign.

NBC and Telemundo owned stations are teaming up with hundreds of shelters across the country to host Clear the Shelters, a nationwide pet adoption drive in August 2021 that helps find loving homes for animals in need. More than 500,000 pets have found their forever homes since 2015. In 2020, more than 130,000 pet adoptions occurred, and more than $1.2 million was raised with help from Clear the Shelters.  This year, Clear the Shelters plans to help animals find homes and shelters raise money once again. The event runs from Aug. 23 to Sept. 19.

More than 1,400 shelters and rescues have participated in the past. This is how to register your organization in this year’s campaign.

How you can impact Clear the Shelters 2021
Americans looking for comfort during the lockdown have opened their homes to new pets and foster animals, but rescues are having a hard time meeting demand. State social distancing regulations have made it more difficult for rescues to bring in new animals, vet them and place them in foster homes or with permanent adopters. However, when the outbreak is over these rescues are going to need more help than ever.

From March 15 through the end of the month, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals saw more than 600 people complete online foster applications for its New York City and Los Angeles foster programs. New York City and Los Angeles have been hot spots for the Covid-19 outbreak and were among the first cities to implement restrictions on social gatherings.

Typically, around 200 applications will be submitted for fostering in the latter half of March, Matt Bershadker, ASPCA president and CEO, said. This year, the ASPCA saw a nearly 70% increase in animals going to foster care compared to the same period last year, he said.

Animal lovers can donate to over 1,200 partner organizations through Greater Good Charities for Clear the Shelters 2021. The Animal Rescue Site will host the fundraising to ensure 100 percent of donations go to animal shelters and rescues. Donations can be made through Go to the link, search for your favorite shelter and make a donation. It’s that easy!
